Anvil help

Hey all,

Been awhile since I have posted on here. A guy I work with mentioned that his mother had an anvil at her house. We got to talking and I said I might be interested in getting it. I asked to get some pictures and this is what I got.

So the question is would it be worth having it shipped from Maine to Illinois? His mother said I can have it at no charge, but that she wasn't going to ship it. LOL. Also, any suggestions on a shipping company.

I don't have any more information, other than its been at his mothers home for quite a long time.

Have you figured out the cost of shipping yet? That would be the factor. How much does that Hay Budden weigh? From that image it looks to be a nice serviceable anvil.

Yup, barring there being some serious issues with the face, it looks to be in good condition. If there's a serial number, Lin may be able to tell you some good info about it. No clue on how to go about shipping it, guessing some kind of freight shipping would work? So long as that didn't cost a fortune, you'd probably be ahead.

The anvil looks to be in pretty good shape. Top brand too. I have two HB's. You might search "shipping" or "freighter" in that area.

shouldn't cost you near to ship what it would to buy one in that good a shape.

Call around, get some prices fast, and get it before she changes her mind.

Well it looks like the stars are aligning. My friend from work is going back to Maine for the holidays and is looking at bringing some things back. He thinks he can make room for the anvil.

Still trying to get more info on the anvil, but kinda cool after several years of looking for one this seems to be falling in my lap. Amazing how simple conversations can lead to interesting discoveries.

Nick, I encourage you to pursue this this anvil. It certainly looks good for it's age. I think it will date to the early 1900's but I would have to have the serial number to see what the Postman book says. Anvils in America by Richard Postman.

You can post your shipment on uship.com and get bids from shipping companies, they can get very competitive.
