Does mesquite (sp) wood make good handles for knives?

Yep. I use it al the time for my 'production' knives. Very hardwearing & takes a great finish.

Like Rob says it's good stuff. 20some years ago I found a big knarly stump with roots sticking out all over the rancher had pulled out while fencing. Didn't have an ax or anything with us... got alot of looks with that whole thing on top of the camper headed back to MO. Got alot of cool "figured" pieces out of it over the years.
Life is wonderful in Montana!!
