Chuck, If it was me, I'd use a limb saver type stringer with a large cup on one end and a pad on the other. Thats what I used for the bow i built. But i dont own one so I'm the last person that should give any info (maybe someone that shoots one will chime in). However, i was talking to my wife about it the other day and she said....why don't you just buy one?    So now i have to start looking.

Matt & Chuck – About half of the Grumley bows that I know of that were strung and shot during the past 15 years, were broken while being shot... Only a fool would string and shoot an original Grumley. Having more bows than brains, it is obvious that I can not claim to be anything other than a fool.

Matt – Added a photograph of the handle section of a couple of my "After Bear Grumley" Bows that have stacked on end 3-Refrigerator Plastic & 4-Osage laminations. Note length of fade outs and leather strike plate when compared to yours. Certainly not criticizing your bow in any way, but rather simply offering comparisons if you want to make your future bows to be closer to originals. Keep up your excellent work! Let me know if you start taking orders for your bows...

Matt - The bow with the red leather grip has the same black refrigerator plastic on the belly that Grumley used in the laminations in the riser. I have two of them with the refrigerator plastic on the belly. One is signed with white ink on the black, perhaps the most stunning Grumley signature that I own. The other is ink stamped on the hickory backing. Also have two Rockford Grumleys with the refrigerator plastic as a lamination under their woven glass backing. I believe black fiberglass would look close if making a repro.
