I have been shooting 3 under for about 12 years. I always had high nock pionts, like 3/4 inch up. I got a new bow about 5 years ago and could not tune it. I went to a friend ( who is a level 4 coach )he said my arrows were sliding down my string. We put on two nocks and now all my bows top nock is 3/8 or less. I have yet to disagree with anything OL has said.

One my first bow I had it below. Worked great.
I didnt put any on my new bow. I just eye it for angle, and it seems to know where to go now.
I shot an arrow into the air......
Still ain't found the bugger

If you ever hang your bow with an arrow nocked while on stand, the arrow's weight will keep the arrow on the string if there is a nock above it.  If the nock is below, the shaft will fall off the bow.  Simple as that.  nock points above and bwlow prevent the arrow from falling off and prevent slipping when you draw, as O.L. has pointed out.
