Ghille Suit Users

Been considering the Cabelas lightweight ghille suit. Not sure of what color to get. Do you think different pants and shirt colors would be more effective ie darker pants and lighter shirt or vice/versa. I hunt mostly in hardwoods from treestands. The field edges when I hunt them are mostly soy beans and corn.

Get a burlap one if they got it. Blends in with anything. I have been using the sleeveless jacket with hood from Rancho Safari for several years. You might want to check them out.

Get the woodland style.  You probably will want only the jacket.  I say this because the pants will pick up all kind of debris,burrs sticks,etc.  You could consider this added camo but it does get bothersome.  After the first couple times wearing the pants, I swapped them out for a set of 3d leafy pants.  Also you can put some sneaky leaves on the jacket to give it more effect.

Right on the money!!! Woodland works for most eastern areas.. I too use the sneaky leaves to give it a lil more depth...

Yes,John it's me. Been after his big brother for the last 3 years. should be well over 180 this year. (The bucks just keep getting bigger here)

Go to Wally Mart buy a cheap camo button up shirt and burlap blind material.  Make sure that the blind material is dark on one side.  Cut it into 3" wide strips about a 1.5' long.  Sew the burlap on the shirt as if the shirt was hanging upside down.  Alternating light and dark(printed side).  When the shirt is turned right side up the burlap loops over its self to create a fuller look.  Make the bottom two rows 2' to 2.5' long to cover some of your legs.  Let mother nature shred it for you.  I have made several like this and it works great.  I also will weave native vegetation into it and you disappear.  For the hat, I use a dew rag with the same procedure as above.  Total cost around $50 to $60 plus time.

I have a question for ghillie suit users...
I am a big boy and when I shoot my bow string is close to my chest (not touching, of course), do any of you find your bow string grabbing the strips on a ghillie suit....
That is one of the reasons I have never bought/made one... I like the concept since I am a ground hunter..

I think a suit trimmed to not interfer with your shot would work just fine.  The whole suit doesn't necessarily have to have strings or leafs attached.  A bare spot here or there shouldn't make a spit of difference.  I have a 3d leaf suit I wear and have almost all of the leafs cut off on the upper left arm because the bow string would sometime catch them and cause noise or worse a bad shot.  I do plan to cut strips of camo mesh and sew them on make it more of a ghillie suit than just a leaf suit this year.

If you cut the strips/cords on the left chest & arm (for a righty)really close there's no string grab. The short material doesn't have any apparent effect on the suit's ability to make you disappear.

You know Larry.....I think if Greg is wearing the Ghille suit he must look like a California Redwood tree!!!!!
