I've hunted mostly flat land in upper Wisconsin most of my life and now my son in law and I bought some land that has a high oak ridge and need some info on hunting the thermals morning and evening. Lots of heavy cover on the north side and open poplar woods on the south. Any suggestions and info would be appreciated ...Thanks, Al

Thermals are rising in the mornimg, so it is hard to hunt a bottom in the am, best stay up on the flats, just be careful not to bump deer going in. Again if ya have  a good entrance ya can hunt the bottoms in the evening as well as the oak ridge. Try and stay out of the bottoms in the morning unless ya have a steady wind(10-15mph)in your favor. High Ridges & Hollows = NO GUARANTEES

I think the deer know how to use them to their advantage.  I've found the bottoms tough in anything less than a perfect wind.  What seemed perfect usually becomes swirling about the time I get settled into my stand in a bottom.

I experience the same as Eagle... its tuff... as whats good from first light till about 9 is one thing, then as the sun shines into the bottoms and it rises...

I take some smoke bombs and an old can and let em off to see...

An eye opener!!! It showed me how even in a steady soft breeze the eddy currents to  do wierd things...

My only surefire is a tall stand on the down-wind side of a ridge line (paralell to the ridge) trail or near a saddle where the deer like to cross.. stand about 10ft higher than the ridge will usually keep you outta scent trouble... by one must be very careful to have good back cover and not be silhoutted...
Expect the best. Prepare for the worst. Capitalize on what comes.
