Well I made it up to Woodies Monday to meet the man of many talents.  When I drove up there, thinking what was I in for, all I could think of was a person of taller than man statue, eyes of crystal, and arms that would look like Popeye.

When I looked into the window and saw movement, I saw a man that I could actually be eye to eye level with, dark deep eyes, and well...arms like Popeye...lol

Woody is definately a master at his art.  To see things materalize for a form of rock to a creation that only he sees within, is such a tribute to his trade.  Woody, I salute you for your knowledge, wisdome, and desire in knapping.  I know of no one that I would have rather won this time and honor to be in their presence than you.

He shown me things, that in my mind, was just a dream as a boy until now.  To hold a rock and form it into something usable as our ancestors did, has totatly eluded me in past.  Thanks to an inspiration from Woody, hopefully it will be a lifelong quest for me to half master what he can do.

Here a a couple of pictures of my first ever point that I, with Woody's assistance and quidance, was able to say......I did it!!!!!!!!!!!...(well 90% anyway)....lol

Woody my friend, this is shared, with others by me as being the very very proud person to say I accomplised this with "YOU MY FRIEND".  And to say thank you, is just not enough, but for now, thank you very very much.

Charles, the pleasure was mine.  I wish we had met four years ago when we moved to this area.  Sure could have made a lot of yellow shavings!  I'm really tickled about your first point -- nothing less than a Clovis and a darn good one at that!        :campfire:

Outstanding Charles. You did great on that point. What a dream come true eh? Few of us get to spend time with a master and learn a few things. I hope you are able to carry this forward and turn into a master knapper as well.

Your thread title reminds of a line from Braveheart... "You've bled with Wallace, now bleed with me" LOL

Come to think of it both of you (Charles and Earl of Bruce) have had triumphs

Just great. Woody is a great knapper but more than that he is a great guy. Darned good instructor too, huh? Ya done fine on that point, SS.

Wow... I just looked at Woody's website. Holy mackeral. What amazing stone work. Which fully paved part of Virginia are you from Woody? NOVA by any chance?

And nice point Stringstretcher. Looks like you were blessed to learn from a master...

Woody,

Good luck with your move! Sorry you'll be moving from the area though. Do you collect native american points too or is your fascination with the art of knapping? Your work is amazing. I sent your website to my parents and sister who are artists (sculptors) who would appreciate your work.

Holy cow that's great Charles, it took me a year before I even got close to that. Course I didn't have a teacher like Woody, make the most of that while he's close. Nice lookin little ol piece of knife river flint there too

Four years in Virginia?
That means that for three years Woody has studiously avoided me. Even after deigning to shoot with me, he has been very careful not to let me know where he lives.  :biglaugh:

Killdeer, I think that it is only because he didn't know me...lol.  I think in a lot of way, Woody and I think alike, which can be good and bad...hehehe.  I also had a chance to watch a couple of his friends knapp yesterday, and got a higher appreciation of rock in general.  Both of those guys knapped with abo methods, and it was quite amazing what they could do.  I was truly blessed being able to spend time with these guys.  Hopefully within time, some of their talents will rub off on me.

You've got the best start you could possibly have - Hands on instruction/demonstration, and in my opinion from one of the best to get it from. It will serve to really help level the learning curve for you, ss.

Woody not only will have lots of critters to chase but with a small amount of planning he'll be picking up interesting, knappable rocks just about anytime he wants to. He'll be thanking the Military for sending his family to Texas for years to come - LOL
