Rabbit tips

What tips do you use to kill rabbits in a rather rapid manner? It is very thick brush where I hunt and I don't want any getting away. Is it better for the arrow to stay in it or for a pass thru?

I have also been wondering the same thing. I have recently bought some small game heads including the G5  

are these mainly for head shots or are they also for vitals like the rib area? will it give a humane kill in the chest area?

Yeah, mxracer. Those SGH heads are lethal on rabbits, be it in the chest or in the head. Just be prepared to pay a pretty penny on 'em...

Hex blunts or Judo's and even blunts, there the cheapest. Rabbits are not real tough to kill. That is unless your Guru at the JLMBH and happen to hit the Iron Bunny that takes you on a 1/2 mile tracking session. But that is the exception to the rule for the most part they die quick.

If you want to pin them so they don't get away.....Use a Bhead.  Don't have to be a new head either.  I use old heads.

Broadheads are the best rabbit heads I've found.

Put a judo spring set on the backside of a broadhead. it'l kill em dead, plus its easy to find arrow.Jonesy

I tried those G5 heads this past season and they worked great on head shots or body shots.  They surprised me by completely penetrating on chest shots.

we hunt them every Sunday during the season.  Best to use a 357 or hexhead in heavy brush to keep those springs from grabbing.  i do like judo's and have used old b-heads as well.  they generally don't take a great deal of killing, but occasionally....

I donno about you guys but every rabbit I have hit with an HTM rubebr blunt died very fist and most almost instantly. I get penetration on the rabbits with flu flu arrows to about 15 or 20 yards. I like kondor points myself though. I can shoot them in the snow with a flu flu all day and not lose an arrow.

I agree with Jonsey; A broadhead with a stopper behind it seems to be ideal.
I too have had great sucess with SGH's, now I just need a 160 Glue-On...  :rolleyes:

No faster kill than a blunt and a head shot. Especially if you're in thick brush, I think it would be better for the arrow not to pass through. Every rabbit I've shot with a broadhead has run a surprising distance, which is why I don't use them any more. But the arrow sticking half way through will slow them down a good deal in thick brush. Hex heads will do that, and have pretty good shock value. I wish they were a little bigger though.

One of these days I'll get my dog trained up enough to heel quietly at my side, and only chase on command. I think that would be great bunny bowhunting. You and the dog sneaking around slowly, when you thump a bunny, send the dog to catch it immediately. If the bunny takes off, the dog can chase and track it and reduce the chance of it getting away if you've made a less-than-perfect shot. But now I'm in dream mode, so I'll sign off.
