Has anyone tried this... I'm experimenting with making different animal tracks with  a wood burner on the shaft.... Would this have any negative impact on the shaft? The wood burner is very similar to a soldering iron with different tips... You can write names... do all kinds of stuff... I was just curious if this would weaken the shaft at all??

I have been burning art into my woodies for quite some time now and have not had any ill effects.

How about some pictures? I bought a wood burner tools but never used it on arrows.

What I've discovered, unintentionally, is that letting the flame, from a regular torch tip, wrap around the shaft, it puts it's own design on it. Neat, random designs. I put the torch on med/high, bring the raw shaft down into the flame, directly in front of the nozzle. Depending if you roll, the shaft, or what direction you pull the shaft out of the flame, will dictate the type of design the flame leaves. Gotta be quick working w/ the high heat, or the shaft gets fried.

None whatsoever. I torch them, then soak them in a combo of the following for about a week. water sealer, minwax walnut colored stain, & wood hardener. Then I let them hang dry for about a week. It works for me.
