I've been doing some bareshaft tuning and trying to get them to shoot well. What is happening right now is, the arrows are hitting the target at an angle. At first, it was pretty severe. The nocking point was set at 7/8. Nock end was way high when hitting target. I lowered it to 1/2 and its a little better. Now the nock end was still a little high and to the left pretty bad. The nocking point doesnt have anything to do with left to right does it? I'm shooting a 69@28 longbow with heritage 350's at full length right now. Any help? Justin

I believe that means spined to weak.

What deflection are the 350s? If you're shooting them at 32" then you are losing about 20#s of spine.

What kind of target you shootin on, if its a layered target you might be getting mixed messages.  layered targets allow for left and right movement so if the arrow is just a little over or underspined it may look worse than it is.  If your shooting on a bag target and your still seeing it severely then I would suggest changing your point weight up front to something lighter to stiffin your spine or shortin your shafts.

Keep in mind that form plays a big part as well, and a bareshaft amplifies any form problems.  69# is a handful so make sure your consistantly using good form.

I figured they might be weak. Due to being full length. I usually cut my arrows to 29 1/2, but I wanted to play with these full lengths before I cut them. I am using a bag target Tim. I have 125 up front. What would you suggest? Justin

southpawshooter

Lower the point weight to confirm weak shaft before you cut.  If she stiffens up, then go ahead and cut...

Southpawshooter is right, if you have some 100gr laying around try them, and see if they make a difference.  At that length the difference may be slight but noticeable.

Just from past experiences, don't get hung up on how the knock end of the shaft looks unless its severe.  If its shooting where your aiming at 20 yards, and shooting consitently, the appearance of the knock kicking left or right will go away with the stabilizing effects of the fletchings.  If the arrows were striking up or down or to the left or right of my point of aim, then I'd concern myself more with spine.

I really appreciate the help guys. Thanks.

Well I tried with some 125gr and 100gr field points. Still shooting pretty much the same. I'm gonna go with OL's tuning method and shoot groups, well try to shoot groups, with fletched and bare shafts. Thanks for the help. Justin
