arrow ?

I see alot of old vintage arows for sale. Wondering what the life span of these things could be?

I'm shooting a batch of arrows given to me by a friend right now that were built in the early 60's, they shoot great. I think they hold up pretty well------however they are painted from nock to toe, I wonder if the paint preserves tham a bit?

My grandfather said the quickest way to ruin something was by not using it. If the arrow fits...use it! However, I think grandpa was talking about mechanical devices. Probably best not to use them unless you positively know how they are finished and were stored. Great mantle and discusion pieces though!

I have a bunch of wooden arrow shafts that I put aside for one reason or another for about 10 years.  They were wrapped in bunches, and stayed straight.  In Sacramento, the garage where they are stored heats up to about 120-130 degrees in the summer sometimes.  I got a bow that I thought they would be good for, and made up a dozen arrows.  It's like shooting arrows made of glass; they fracture if you look at them crooked.  I assume the heat dried them out too much to be any good as arrow shafts anymore.  OTOH, I think well sealed arrows would last a lot longer, as they wouldn't dry out as fast.
