Arrow length measurement

Wanting to make sure I understand arrow length measurement. On a wood arrow, do you count the 1/2 inch or so that is tapered down and fits inside the glue on point or is the arrow measured from the BOP (back of point?)? In figuring the total arrow weight, wouldn't the one half inch inside that point add at least some weight to the GPI number?

I'm not completely sure I understand your question. The normal way that you measure the length of an arrow is from the BOP to the throat of the valley of the nock. You're going to have additional weight in the front taper that goes into the point and the rear taper that goes into the nock.

I know some folks consider the overall length when shooting arrows from none traditional bows. As far as GPI, there is enough variation in wood that it's always going to be some variation; regardless how you calculate it.

Arrow weight is arrow weight! Nothing tricky about it, whatever the finished arrow weighs that's what it is no matter what material it's made from.

As mentioned by Stringwacker, the length of the arrow is from BOP to the valley of the nock.  The small part of the shaft that extends into the point and the nock is not counted as part of the length.  There would be many alternative ways to measure the arrow, but the important thing is that everyone is consistent, so if you order a 29" arrow, you know what you're getting.

Just remember that the given spine value of wood commercial shafting is for a 28" finished arrow with a 125gr point. Any variance is the length and point weight will affect the dynamic spine of the arrow.
