Can go either the week of  September 13 or the 20th to NW Colorado this year. Have been going the last week for recent years. Last year they were all herded up by that time. Looking for some die hard elk hunters biased opinions!
Thanks folks.

I've always preferred the last week of season.  Yes, they've been hunted hard by then, including by muzzleloader hunters the week before.  But that's more the start of the rut and the bulls will be herding the cows.  There'll be fewer hunters as well.  The first week is always a circus, though you would probably see more animals in more accessible country then.  They'll be in harder to find and get to places later in the season.

Muzzleloader season is Sept. 11-19, while archery season is Sept. 2-30.  Unless you have a hard to access area to hunt, I would suggest the later date.

Either the first week or the last week or one of the weeks in between!

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

This!!  they all have merit, pluses and minuses. Depends a lot on where your hunting and how you want to hunt them and how much scouting you have done.
