Finally able to get out for a little woods time this afternoon. Besides dealing with friends and family with the virus, there have been a lot of personal struggles with family issues this year.  Early in the spring I lost two good friends to the virus. With things being what they were (still are), there were no funeral services and I don't feel like I got any closure. Lost two nephews last spring as well (non COVID) and again, no services.
So this afternoon I'm going to hit the woods, climb a tree and have a talk with all of them. If a buck happens to pass by and the everything is "right", I'll take him. If not, well that's fine too. Time to myself with my bow in my hand and the solitude of the woods is what I need right now.
Often, we get too caught up with thinking we have to kill something when we should be grateful that we have the opportunity to do the thing(s) that we love to do. This year has reminded me of that and I thank God that I am still  able to spend time in His creation.
Good Luck to everyone still hunting. Be safe. Be thankful.

Have a good hunt, Mike.

I understand your frustrations with life this past year.

The woods is a special place and a bow is a special friend in hand.

Closure is one of the most important aspects of healing after losing people you are close to. I hope you have a quiet, peaceful time to say a proper good bye to your friends.

Tough year!  Hope you were able to get some peace and closure in the forest.  Seems there's always some extra solitude sitting in a tree stand.  Be Well and Hunt On!

I did that same thing couple days ago, when the deer did come by couldn't bring myself to kill it.
Maybe next fall.

I've had that experience, it hit me one evening when I was walking  back to my vehicle.
I really miss with my dad who introduced me to bowhunting.

It will be a peaceful time hopefully.

2020 was rough. I lost 2 cousins from Covid. I've also lost friends and former colleagues but not necessarily from that virus.

Currently, my nephew and his family have it.

I hope all is going well for you, and that you have found the inner peace you seek. I agree with Rustic that being in the woods cleanses the mind, body, and soul.

It's posts like your Mike that get me crying time and time again. I lost my beautiful wife to cancer in 2019. We had almost 48 years in.  My 60 year old brother dropped dead with a heart attack in 2020 and I lost two childhood friends to cancer in 2020.  And of course I have the fear of covid looming.  Last Friday I took my bow and went to my hunting camp and roamed around looking for some rabbits. I jumped 9 and missed 2. Had a successful rove for sure as my mind was at ease for a few hours.  But then there was the drive home.

I find it hard to carry two faces. One with a smile when someone calls or stops by asked me how I am doing and the second face after they leave.

I catch church (mass) a couple of days during the week to find peace and it helps but the loss of my beautiful Chris has just been devastating.
