Bare shaft tuning

I have 2 Schafer Silvertip recurves. One is 64", 45# @28" and the bare shaft it likes is either Easton GG 500's or Camo Hunter 2016's cut to 30" (my draw is 29".) The other Silvertip is a 56", 45#@28," and it likes either the Camo Hunter 2013's (.610 spine) or 1916's (.623 spine.) That doesn't make sense to me, because both bows  are right around 50# at my draw length, so initially I was thinking 500 spine for both, & maybe having to go stiffer due to the arrow length. but bare shafting doesn't lie, so that's what they get! Bottom line-don't be hesitant to try shafts at spines above & below where you think the correct spine is-you might find a real winner!

For wood arrows I use same formula as Pat B.  The wildcard being how the shelf is cut to center.  Your last post also is pretty spot on.  With your longer draw, the K mag is going to be a more sensitive bow.  If you're looking for a short, tight quarters bow, the Super Shrew Classic Hunter II in 54" length is a great performer with longer draws.  I think Kodiak Magnum was designed more for the 26-28 inch draw back in the day (see commentary from 'The Oldest Game' in the Bear Archery video series.  Bows like the Super Shrew Classic Hunter II were designed to have the limbs unfold differently to keep string angle pinch at a more comfortable and less critical position

Was just ogling the Shrew bow you mention, what a great looking bow. Even if I did have the money right now for it, I don't, already hit my maxed allotment of bows this year. I'm not sure if I'd have the patience to wait a year for it's production, unless I'm reading that incorrectly and he was referring to the original bow design that took that long.
Anyway what a beautiful bow.
