Hey all. Had trouble for some time trying to get back on here. Been missing some of the success stories from a bunch of you. I had a great 2019 Fall season and would like to share.
This story is from Nov 2
Settle in and it's still dark. I hear footsteps. Deer already here. I can see dark shadows of movement right in front of me, but I can't tell what it is. Waiting for the light, they still linger near. Finally enough light to see a young buck feeding around me. He finally walks off. More leaves rustling further down the ridge. I see antlers in the distance, a nice buck. He come in perfect to my lane but he is getting uneasy. He knows. I draw as he passes behind a big tree. As he comes out the other side he is looking at me. I release and he bolts! My arrow parallels him and he gets away clean.
10 minutes pass and another fine buck is on his way in. Same path and as he passes the big tree, I draw. He comes past the tree and my arrow meets him!
I watch him disappear into the hemlocks. Now adrenaline kicks in and with the cold air, I'm shaking.
It's not over, another buck coming in. I only have one tag, but I can still sit and enjoy this rut of a day. This buck comes in same way. Another beauty big high 8. This goes on and I see five nice bucks before tracking the one I hit.
Now I'm on the blood trail and I hear something following me. It's a Doe with a small buck in tow. They are thinking of other things and pass by me in arms reach. A few more chasers pass me with in minutes. Wow!
Blood is getting spares, and I hear movement below me. I see a buck and it suddenly falls down! He's the one and it's done. I do the dirty work and try getting up the steep ledge he went down. Heart is pounding, but I get it done. I still have a mile to go but it's fairly flat. I call to see if my Dad is out of the woods yet. He is, so no mile drag. Dad says he will come with ATV in a bit. The drag up the cliff was enough. I'm glad Dad was there to share the experience. Dad is 82 now. We are both cancer survivors, and he had open heart last year.
What a great day! I praised the Lord all the way in this morning, and I'm still praising Him now. Thank you Lord for a great day.[attachment=2,msg2902854][attachment=1,msg2902854]

Good hunting to you all.
May the wind be your friend, and may your arrows fly true,
Most of all, may the appreciation and the gratitude of what we do keep us humble......

Congrats on your deer and sharing with your Dad, glad you are both healthy enough to return to the woods.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

Well done.  Glad you and your Dad shared the adventure.

Awesome hunt! Congrats!

A Lex, this bow is a Tank Killer made by my friend Mike "bamboo" Robin. Because of his recent diagnosis, I was determined to use his bow all year and to fill a tag. Perseverance paid off.
