So, I have a friend of mine who shoots 2" fletching on his arrows. He likes to go outside the box some, and also shoots a fixed crawl.

Anyway, I've watched him shoot and hunt with those 2" feathers with great success.

I just switched to .400 spine Widowmaker Smash shafts when I got my new Primal Tech longbow, and I'm really impressed with them. I've put them on the spine tester, and they are super consistent and super straight! I've always known that a well tuned arrow doesn't need as much fletching to keep it in line.

On a whim, I decided to give the 2" feathers a try also. Man, they are awesome. Perfect flight, should have gained just a tad speed, should be less effected by wind, and should be quieter. I can find no downside to using the 2" unless the arrow is not tuned well, or the shooter does not have very consistent form!

Here's a few pics of my new arrows:

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that broadhead flight is perfect too!!!! They are in my quiver, ready to head to the blind from now on!!!!!!

Used the AA style fletch from tuffhead and these small guys have no issue keeping the arrows straight.
As you mentioned form is paramount- still looking to get it down pat.

Cool! I have some Gateway 2" & 3" I've yet to try. They make some neat looking short fletching, too.

Bisch, I too have been wanting to try 2" feathers. Can you tell me are those the Razyrs? and do you have any type of offset or helical? hard to tell in the pics.

Those are the Rayzrs. I used a jojan jig with right helical clamps because that is what I had. They are 75x105, also because that is the way the nock indexers I had are.

I've been burning my feathers in a "blazer" shape, and hunting them for 3 years now. That's all I use anymore. Be meticulous with your bare shaft tune, and it's more than enough feather. They'll guide my 1.75" wide Centaur big game heads perfectly out to a tested 50+ yards. I do a 3 fletch left helical on Gold Tip tradition XT's.
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

I switched to the 2" razor 2 years ago and have never looked back, perfect flight and much quieter

I've been considering going to 4" feathers. 2" has never crossed my mind. The smaller feathers, 4" in my case, certainly seem to fly faster and tune perfectly. Changing old habits is not easy. My quiver is still full of the 5 inch feathers. Maybe next year. Thanks for the insight "Bisch".  :archer2:

Try turbulators in front of the fletching seems to smooth out air over feathers and i gained two yards of point on distance.

I'd say it worked real good! And here I was just thinking how my "conservative" set up w 3 - 5" feathers was so the thing to use.

I switched to four 3" shields last year and have been happy with results. Not really any diff results than standard 5" go to I shot for years. But they look cool, fly just as good in any condition as far as I can tell and are much cheaper.
