I had a mis-cut hickory blank and decided to play with it, I like to experiment. When I bent the statics one cracked a good bit so I added and osage overlays to reinforce the curves. I finished tillering it yesterday and was surprised how zippy it was for hickory.

Nice Eric.  I like those recurves a lot.  I've done underlay's to strengthen the curves, but never an overlay.  Nice to know.
Life is too short to use marginal bow wood

I put the first set of overlays on with smooth-on, they popped loose. I might have put too much clamp pressure on my C clamps and made a starved glue joint. You can see part of the old overlay below the nock overlay and where I transitioned the new overlay into the old. Everything above the new overlay is glued on with smooth-on.

I fitted the next set on more carefully and used Unibond glue to put them on, they stayed put.

I always seem to crack one limb tip when I bend it so having overlays on my statics seem normal to me.

Here is an earlier static with reinforcement;
