This has me a little worried. There is bare skin exposed and you can see the ribs.
Any idea what could be the problem?[attachment=1][attachment=2]

Looks like Mange or a similar hair loss syndrome. Its usually caused by lice or mites. Results can be over grooming due to skin irritation, hair loss and thickening/ wrinkling of the skin. Defiantly worth a call to the DNR or notification of a Conservation Officer. I would have an accurate description of the location and a copy of the photo ready to give them.

Let us know how it turns out.

I forget the name of the condition but I forget what its called.  it is caused by mites and is irritated skin which causes them to rub and lose hair.  Northern deer can freeze to death from it.

Broken Arrows

This went trough our area about 10 years ago. We lost a lot of deer and they are just now making a come back.

I always heard it was ticks and that was from the deer trying to rub them off. I think Barry Wensel said something about it in his new video too. I don't know if that's the case with that deer though since it looks pretty sickly.

I've had a few people tell me it's a tic problem.
Looks like a bad year for tics.
That kinda makes sense to me.

When CWD goes active it kills them very fast.  They actually die of dehydration.

I don't think a deer dieing of CWD would have time to deteriorate that much.

Archery isn't something I do, it's who I am!
The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

other than having a bad hair day, and a bad case of fleas and ticks. it looks pretty healthy.

Bonebuster

It looks to me that the hair loss is located where the deer can reach with it`s mouth...like it`s pulling the hair itself.

Should see a deermatologist!
