Hey Guy's, I tried to search this, I found a lot of stuff but not the answer.I"m building a red oak board bow and put tip overlay on...can It handle fast flight or should I stay with b-50? also is it ntn length minus 4 inch's? for string length. Burt

I have used fast flight on all my self bows with no problems.  For the proper length, I usually shoot for a while with a string tied with a timber hitch until I find the right brace height.  Then I just make a string that length.

4 inches might be a tad short, maybe 3 to 3.5 inches. You can always twist it shorter.

Thanks guy's. Roy,I got about 1 3/4 inch string follow.do I use a fabric tape and measure along the profile, or nock to nock?...Burt

I always measure nock to nock as the crow flies.. With that string follow maybe 3.5 to 4 now. All I can say is make one up and see. Do you make strings?

Bowjunkie

Measure nock to nock along the bow's contour for layout or to determine bow length and to decide what length string to make.

If you get to measurin' as a crow flies on bows with a lot of reflex or on a recurve, you'll likely have a rough time fitting strings to them.

thanks, yes I do make strings. Burt

You are correct on measuring recurves. I don't worry about it on my long bows.
