I picked up this Ridgid sander & made an adjustable fence for it. Works great. I put a dial indicator on it which is pretty accurate for adjusting the thickness. Made the base out of mdf with a layer of aluminum glued to the top. Did a little shimming to get things squared up so it does a pretty good job.
I added additional mounting holes to accommodate larger pieces.

One of the best things about this site is seeing the ingenuity the guys on here have - nice going!

Anyone have an idea on how to build a guide to do template sanding?

Yes, you`ll need a bottomplate with a fence but the templates need the according offset then!

Nice fence design. Use the same table but remove fence, make a bridge over the belt and make sure it clears the spindle height at its top most lift. Keep the bridge short enough to be able to make adjustments to your belt. On the power head side create an arc the same width as the power head. The jig to place the wood stock and the template will have to be made with a clamp toggle system to hold it in place. If you have seen how the old shaper jigs are made then you will understand what I am saying. If not then google raised panel shaper jig. Your fence shows some good thought processes I am sure you will figure it out, good job.

I was just think of something like this myself today, but you had a better idea than I did. Thanks for sharing
