I have an old Alleghany Longbow and I want to refinish it and maybe re-shape the huge recurve style grip,,don't want to mess with the tiller.

I figure just sand it with a light grit sandpaper then spray with poly, anyone have any quick tips or what not to do or use advice.   thanks for any info,, T

is that a bill kerner bow?if it is I had a chance to talk to bill about his finishing recommendations and he didn't worry about grip mods at all but would void warranty if the center cut was changed at all--and recommended poly urethane over his seal coats--so I might wipe it down real good with denatured alcohol to remove any waxes then a light sanding and then several coats of poly--good bows by the way!
good luck

I believe it is a Bill K bow but it must be at least 20yrs old and the warranty is long gone..

let me ask you this,,, I want to bring the woods back out so does that light sanding mean to go down to the wood at least on the riser and fade outs?  the limbs maybe just a light one there so the new finish sticks.

as for the center cut its fine but the riser is thick,,, when your holding the bow the bottom of the arrow is around a 1/2" higher than your hand and just the shelf alone is 1/4 thick..... BUT I'm wondering with that because if I mess with the shelf obviously it messes with the tiller..
