Ok so I have a question. Im looking to build a two piece longbow. It will be my first bow so is more of a learning experience (and trust me, I fully expect to screw up a few times). My question is this. I plan on having the bow come together with some kind of locking system using interlocking male/female parts on each part of the bow, think Bob Lee stabi lock but not as fancy.

Does this seem feasible/worth persuing, or would it be more worthwhile to stick with a more traditional 3 piece takedown using bolts on the limbs. Any guidance is MUCH appreciated.
My bow: Bob Lee Blaze longbow 44# @ 28 inches.

I would use a two piece sleeve instead. BUT, i would wait till you've made a couple bows first.

Check out Big Jim's series on YouTube about making a takedown bow.

Very good. Very knowledgeable. Very thorough. Plus I get a kick out of it when he says "this is just what works for me".

He's obviously got it down to a science, I wouldn;t second guess that guy if you gave me a million dollars to do it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely look into it. And I probably will back down and make some more basic stuff first, I have a horrible habit of jumping head first into things. Doesnt always pay off.    :knothead:

I'm planning on chopping a bow in half soon to try Big Jim's method. I'll try and post it when I do.
