While trying to tiller out my first board bow, one of my tips broke at the nock, and I had to shorten it from 68 ntn to 66 ntn.

My question is, can I still get a hunting draw weight out of a 66 inch bow, without having to greatly modify my limbs?

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Sure, no problem unless you have a 31" draw and need an extra long bow to handle it.

I don't know how your tip broke, if you filed a string groove across the back of your board it may cause a tip failure. Cut your string grooves only on the sides of you limb.

I think it was operator error on my part...a product of not enough wood and not using my stringer. Lesson learned.

A 66 incher will support a 29 - 30 inch draw? Good to know, fingers crossed.

Frosty the Bowman

Hey Matt,

How about some pictures?

I am hopeing to start my first board bow soon and would love to see how you did it, and how things looked as it was done.

What is your draw weight you are shooting for?

Thanks and good luck man.

So-Mo Archer

Sorry, Frosty, no pics this go round. Will post a pic of the finished product though. On my next one, I'll take some in process photos, because I'll be introducing my nephew to the obsession.    :goldtooth:

Also, I forgot to tell you the weight I'm after...in nc legal hunting weight is 45# @ 28, so that is my goal, but I'll be happy with a bow that makes it to finishing. ;D

7 Lakes

I may be mistaken but I believe you'll find NC minimum bow weight is 40#.  Maybe I'm thinking of compound, my CRS is kicking in again.

So-Mo Archer

You may be on to something there, 7Lakes, just rechecked my digest and it is 40#. I think it may come out above there when I get out on a scale. Hopefully.

Thanks for the reminder.
