I found an old planer blade at work today along with a piece of what I think is mahogany, so I made some sort of scraper...

The blade is recessed into the wood

It seems to work ok, it wants to take BIG bites of wood though...

I use those same blades for scrapers.  I don't have a handle for mine I just hold the blade.  They do a great job and with pressure they can take off a lot of wood with each scrape.  I'de say with that sweet handle you made you will love it.

I believe that right there is called a spokeshave my friend!  Well done. I've been looking for one at the flea markets and such, but now i'm thinking why don't i just make one!

Are you holding it at 90 degrees?  If you hold it at an angle, it's gonna take big bites.  Spokeshaves are made for holding perpendicular to the surface and scraping off fine shavings of wood.  Needs to be plenty sharp at that.

Again, nice job and enjoy your toy . .. er... tool:)

I actually used it like a draw knife to remove bark and then held it at 90 degrees and used it as a scraper. Worked pretty good  :)
