Nother Hackberry

64 inches NTN pullin 55# at 28 but I think my scales are off it might be a bit stiffer than that.



after 4 or 500 pulls on the tree it's still holdin up pretty good.

maybe tomorrow after work I can get some bendin pics.

I have a 61" ntn hackberry working recurve Im trying to fly through this week. I left my limbs 1 7/8" wide right up to about 10" short of the tips. How wide is yours? Did you toast that belly some? It looks nice

PD this one is 13/4 out past mid limb and tapers to 1/2 and yes I toasted it. I had to go to a funeral today so about all I did was slick it up with some 350 grit and steel wool after that. I'm ready to fire some arras now before I put some shine on it. I'm thinkin it needs some skins...but I haven't seen a snake in months,been way to hot.

Its amazing how hard the belly gets when its toasted. Youc an really hear the difference when you tap a tempered belly compared to a raw belly. Nice looking thickness tapers.

needs alittle work on the bottom limb but it zips an arra pretty darn good. I did some sanding just off the fade but haven't checked it yet...103 in the shop didn't feel like stringing it up. Tiller is pretty well even but I may have to take a bit off the top..what ya think.

She looks real sweet.  Just what do you do when you toast the belly?  How do you determine how much, and how long for the heat?  

I've got 2 Hackberry staves that I haven't touched yet but I'm about ready to, after lookin' at yours.  :bigsmyl:

Looks pretty good to me. Maybe a couple scrapes off the limb on the right but its pretty close as is. How much reflex did you heat into it?

Thanks....I had to work again today O/T.....I've had all that I can stand right now in this heat. Joe I use a Wagner heat gun I think the low setting is 750 and 1000 on high. I wish it was hotter than that for toasting tho, I think if it was hotter it would get the surface hotter quicker without heating up the limb to much. I got this one bending real good to about 20 inches then heated and toasted the belly at the same time and added 21/4" of reflex to it.

Couldn't stand it I had to put some stain on it.



I thought I had a couple more pics..hmm. It shoots great just a touch of handshock not bad but after a couple shots it goes away but that might be in my head. I need some better pics those look a bit fuzzy.

Your bow turned out great. Have some hackerry drying right now, thinking about roughing out a blank to dry some faster so i can get to work.
