Osage bow question...

I had a friend give me a piece of osage. It is approx. 1-3/8 x 1-1/2 x 56". the 1-3/8 side had pretty straight grain, however, on the one end it has 6 or 7 runouts. Could it be used as a board bow with a hickory or maple backing. Or should I just use it for riser and overlay stock.

Sounds like it may a good one for boo. Hickory might be good to.

Let's see see what the rest of the gang has to say. If it where me I would go with boo. But I don't know all there is to know. Matterof fact I know very little and will learn something here as well as you.

One thing I figured out about bowmaking though is sometimes you never know until you give it a go.

Will hopefully get pics tonight. Its basically a sawn 2 x 2.

You could probably use it with a hickory, boo or maple backing but pics will tell for sure.
