Gued this up months ago, but shaped it today.

My hybrid, latest edition, best one yet. Finally got rid off the problems in my hybrids:)1/2" of initial reflex, 1" of set right now.

my simple block-form used, mummywrapped with rubberbands (bicycle innertubes). Clamps on the fadeouts of the powerlam, on the outterlimb(for the profile) and on the handle. Used TBB3 for the glueup. No degreasing, but sanded at an angle with 60grit belts.

B00 - (ipé) - Ipé - (padouk) ; ipé overlays

60" ntn
1 1/2" -> 1/4" limbs, straight taper. No thickness taper
~55 #  @ 28"
powerlam of 14", handle of 12".
small yet comfortable (for me) handle, wich allows me to pleasantly hold my spare arrows aswell. Love the drawn shape.

AlWays wear nice shoes when handling your bows  :)
...Or wear none!

hope you like my little bowe

Hey Nick

As usual, a great bow. Did you work on it outside in that weather? I vowed that I'm not building any bows until it gets 15degrees warmer here. I also work outside on my patio. England looks pretty much what Holland looks like. And maybe I'm just a wimp, but hey I originate from South Africa where white gold is rare.

Hats off to you mate!

thanks guys!!!

yup it's pretty darn cold here. I'm a barefootbarebodyshortpants bowyer, and that doesn't really combine well with -5'C

yet I've removed enormous amounts off wood from some pretty european oak staves, Wich will be turned into bows, pretty soon...  :)

Very nice bow Nick.  I have a glued up BBO ready to tiller.  I too like to work in warmer weather.  -25F
here in past weeks makes it tough to be motivated.  It is nice to see some more of your work.  Keep it coming.

glad you guys like it!

blue eagle, I'm going to make quite alot of bows this spring-summer. Pm me if you're interested!  ;)

chúupaaa  :)  glad to see you posting in one of my threads again!

I have actually worn a pair of 'klompen' for a few days a year in the first years of primary school. They came in handy when being bullied. A single kick to the ass often resulted in an unfriendly person crawling on the ground and screaming like a B%#@h. They were also ideal for hammering on heads.

foreigners think that dutchies wear 'klompen'. Dutchies think that all frisians wear klompen. Frisians themself are hardly capable of thinking at all. They would've made Ideal backstops if it weren't illegal.

thats a sweet bow. Im lookin to make the same exact thing except with a hickory backing. How thick is the ipe and how far till the fades is your bow?

Thanks Dano!!

glad you like it too Art!

thank you over and under  :)  I'm running out of supplies for these hybrids, If you want one, be quick!  :p
Bowur,

The ipé is 1/4" thick, tapers from 1 1/2" to 3/8" tips in a straight line.

the handle is 12" long and the 1/2" thick powerlam is 14" long. I will go for a thinner 3/8"-1/4" powerlam for the next one bow. A similar, but bigger bow had bad gluelines at the p-lam's fadeout.

if you choose a simple handlestyle, for example a 'bulky' grip, you could increase the bending limb by 4-6", depending on the length of your fades( 11/2" fades, 4" handle = 6" additional bending limb  /2" fades, 4" hndle = 4" additional bending limb). Make your powerlam 1"- 11/2" longer than your handle at each side.

the backing would be around 1/4" - 3/16th thick, mine's pretiller to a nice circular bend.

these bows are heavily stressed, so take the best hickory you have.
the bow initially had 2" of deflex and 2 1/2" of reflex, if I recall correctly.
