I want to paint me recurve in a tiger stripe design. Has anyone done this? how did you do it? Im thinkin i could first paint it orange and then get some sort of stencils and add black stripes. Whats the best method of repainting a bow?

You can get  some really good stencils for all kinds of camo from here.

This selfbow was backed with tiger stripped tissue paper from an art supply catalog.

That was going to be my hunting bow this past season until this happened...

The tissue paper looks like a good way to do it.

If you opt to go the spray paint route, just remember to think in reverse.  I'd lay the black down.  Cut my stipes to use as masking, and pproceed to mask the areas that I wanted to remain black,  Then apply your orange.  Wait for it to dry and remove the tape.  Blue painters tape is nice for cutting clean lines and peels off without lifting paint.

Here's my huntin' rifle.  Green laid down, then masked, followed by brown, and more masking, then the predominant tan.  Dried then all tape removed.  Final coat was a satin Polyurethane.  I've thought about doing similar treatment to a bow.

This link here is painting a gun but I may give it a try.  http://www.duckhuntingchat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=36000
I like that idea Pat that looks cool and I bet the price was right.

This tissue paper came in tiger striped, zebra stripes(black/white), leopard, giraffe and cow. The patterns on the cow and giraffe were too big for a bow but the other three looked great.
The tissue paper is difficult to put down because as soon as it hits the glue it it ready to tear and wrinkle.

Pat, did that happen on the tree or shooting it?

I put a paper bag backing on a hickory self bow painted it white and drew stripes on with a black sharpy, I then sprayed it with polyurethane and it looked pretty cool! Might be a curse to paint your bow like this however because mine had a similar fate to Pat,s osage bow.

This bow had 1000 arrows through it. The problem was operator error!!!  Late night, artificial stimulation(Evan Williams) and trying to incorporate my back muscles in my draw, pulled an inch too far and BOOM!!!
With wood bows...a bow fully drawn is 9/10 broken...and I hit the 10/10th!
