Has anyone used verawood for a riser?  its related to lignum v. so I think it may be a little oily?? I dont want to end up with a bunch of pretty wood thats useless for bows. I can also put my hands on some partridge wood, goncalo alves and some other Central and South American woods, no bocote or morado...any advise on what woods to avoid?? going saturday morning to look and buy..

May be wrong but I think goncalos alves will work.  Sorry don't know about the others.

I know they only have a couple of Goncalo 8/4 boards but they have a bunch of cocobolo,Ipe,jatoba and granadillo. When I called today the guy told me he had woods from Columbia that were suitable for bow risers. I think the verawood may be to waxy/oily for me so I may end up with a bunch of Cocobolo riser blocks

I'd like to get my hands on some of the Ipe

the only ipe he had was 3 x 3 x 36 and I did not buy any. I picked up 3 cocobolo boards, a carreto board, enough pui and partridgewood for 3 risers and a piece of the verawood not sure what i will do with it but if not to oily it will make a nice looking riser. everything I got was 8/4. I will start making some bows as soon as deer season is over..
