I don't post as often as I used to but I do stop in to see what's going on.  With that in mind I thought I would share my latest project.

I wanted to make a fillet knife that would hold an edge, stand up to whatever tasks could ever be expected and be comfortable with extended use.

This is what I felt would work best.

I chose 15N20 for the properties it has. I rough profiled a couple and heat treated them. When I ground the knife I wanted thin with distal taper to a needle point. When I was happy with my grinds I wanted to see if my heat treat was what I was hoping for.

Pizza box, no problem.

Pine knot, no problem.

Flex, you bet.

I think I am liking this. The rest is just finish work.

Pro image coming soon.

Comments and critiques welcomed and I will try to be more regular in posting here.

Looks like the perfect filet knife, but you didn't show the filets in the pan.

Great job Chris. 15N20 is a great steel for any knife, but especially a filet knife. Love the design.

That's fantastic-great job! Good looking knife and I agree with needing pics of the fish dinner  :) .

Thanks for the kind comments. Sorry about the lack of food pics. I don't usually do the after pics of my dinner. Usually the dinner pics have the hide on when I take a pic.

nice one, Chris...I'm with Darcy on the handle too.  I'm finishing up a bird and trout with 15N20 and that stuff can get very thin and very sharp indeed.
