A few pics of a big 12" bladed "Southern" Bowie finished up yesturday.  Forged from W2 round bar, differentially h/t using clay, very visible but simple hamon.  Overall length is 18", with a real nice Crown sambar stag handle that had no brow tine.  This is the only Crown ive come across that didnt have a brow tine.

Any how, time to get a sheath made and find this one a new home... it is fun to handle though... a Bowie this size makes any grown man smile like a school kid.

thanks Joe,  I just got lucky finding this one, as its the only Crown ive ever found that was shaped right and DIDNT have a brow tine.  Worked out just right.

Very nice Matt. I have to say I have never seen a stag crown handle I liked, until now. You already mentioned the reason for my taste on the crown, cut off tines just dont appeal to me. Thanks for sharing.

That is a really, really cool crown Matt!
Those don't come along every day.
And the knife is exquisite as always.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

thanks all,  yes that Crown took some looking for. I looked through several hundred tapers/carvers to find about 20 good ones, and got lucky finding this Crown.

Outstanding. One of the nicest stag handles I've seen. Great looking hamon too.
