First Solo Liner Lock Folder

I say solo but still gotta thank Kevin for helping me get started and a couple of phone calls along the way.

I've been pecking away a this one for a month or so a few minutes here a few minutes there. Tis the busy season here in MT and don't get much shop time... Works nice and smooth, everything centered up well and she took a hair popping edge. 3 3/8" closed, 6 1/8" open , curly Koa scales, 303 bolsters and the blade forged from 1/2" round W2. There is a shadowy Hamon I messed with trying to get to come out but it just stayed "shadowy" and never did pop. Put I put a light etch on the blade and am pretty satisfied with the result. That is one sweet folder, Doug.
I am really digging the progress, here, of both you and Kevin.
I think it's neat to see folders being made.
And I enjoy that they're being done by guys who first made hunters and Bowies and such.
I think there will be influence on well built and TOUGH folders, since you're accustomed to making knives that chop 2X4s!!
Just got my new mill in today.
Next week - my surface grinder!
I can see some folders in my near future, as well.

Absolutly Perfect !

Be glad when you get the hamon thing figured out so you can help me, I messed with one two days and finally just hand sanded (for finish) .
Or maybe Karl can do it on the small blades also,he does big one nice.

Great job Doug!! I do love a great folder. I can see how getting good Hamon on a folder could be tough. I have enough trouble on bigger blades. I think I may just have to try one. When I do I hope it turns out half as nice as what your doing. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys, these little jewels are addicting. I see why Kevin went "folder wild" for a while

I've got the next one layed out on the bench already, hope it don't take as long as this one...

It may be a little tough to chop a 2x4 with though Karl, think the blade will be 2 1/2" or so...

That's one SWEET looking folder! That's the direction I hope to go when I find some time to get back into knife building. And your knife is exactly what I dream of building! GREAT KNIFE!

Heaving seen it in person, I can attest that it is an awesome knife. However, its a little big for my likes/needs. Doug must have taken it personally when I mentioned that I wanted a smaller version when he developed it. Go forward a week or so, to when I returned from the North American Longbow Safari on Sunday evening and laying on the counter was the smaller version of the knife above: in fact, the exact size I had described.

THANKS BUD, its going to get a lot of use.

Pictures tomorrow if I get home when the light is still good. In Montanaeeze, that means if I don't go fishing.
