I got this one out of a pile of fire wood:
Then dried it and sent it off to get stabilized.

When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Karl, thats some nice firewood....  and a keen eye to spot it before being burned!

Charlie,  ive gathered mine from the various importers over 15 years.   Cook Woods is a decent place to start,  they arent the cheapest but generally have a good supply.

I get mine from trading with friends, and on that big auction site which name cannot be spoken^^
I also harvest some myself, birch-burls and maple that is.. Not to much Zebrano or Ebony here up North!

THANKS. I have a question about stabized wood i've used minwax wood hardner in a jar in hot water with handles soaking in the hardner. I don't know if this works.but does the climate have anything to do with handles shrinking. I live on the gulf coast, plenty of moisture.

Alpha Knife Supply has some nice stabilized wood blocks. They show you a picture of the actual piece so you know what you're getting. Great people too.

I too have found nice wood in unlikely places...from a pallet, and from a concrete float at the store.
The Blade Show is a good place to put your hands on wood before buying.

A short walk in the woods back home in California. Found some nice handle material there. But like many here have said before me, you can find great handle material in very unlikely places. If there is a bow maker in your area, hit him up for some fall offs from the bows too.
