Removing Paint From An Old Recurve

What is the best way to get camo paint off an old bow? I have a few that I've acquired and would like to see how they look under all the paint.

Maybe there is already a thread on this, but I searched and did not find one.

I used paper towels "DAMPENED" with acetone on a '61 Grizzly.

Don't get the papertowel too wet. You don't want to let the acetone penetrate into the glue. Worked fast to remove most of it, then I sanded the rest off.

best way to remove removable camo is with covergirl 100% acetone finger nail polish remover and one of those green scotch-brite pads...bd

Bowdoc, scrubbing with the scotch-brite pad won't hurt the finish underneath the camo paint?

Take some comet and mix with water. Scrub the bow with a damp cloth dipped in the comet. If you are lucky some paints will come right off. If not you are in to the accetone. This will harm the varnish finish the comet will not. It is worth a try before you go to the accetone.

Covergirl Acetone finger nail polish remover will not hurt the original finish unless you do a lot of scrubbing because the actual original finish was a 3 part finish mixed with a hardner and tempeture controled cure time(real hard finish originaly).99% of camo paints come from those rattling type bomb cans and dry rather softish and will scrub off the bow rather quickly.Where as the original finish you will be scubbbbbbbbbing to remove that stuff.bd

I've used regular bulk acetone and never had a problem with the original finish.

I guess Bowdoc uses Cover Girl because that's what he has around the house to remove his fingernail polish.

OK Jack you let the cat out of the bag and now everyone will think I'am just another cheap easy covergirl date.With that said I would like to mention I am easy but not cheap.
I know this sounds crazy however finger nail polish remover is filterd in the manufacturing process a bit better then over the counter acetone.Not sure why may so it don't eat the ends of your fingers off.bd
