Refurb on a 90's Super Kodiak -HELP-

Looking for some advice here on a 1990's Super Kodiak. It has a high gloss finish that I dont like, and some holes in the riser. I radiused the shelf, and rounded the grip as well, it was blocky and would cause pain in my hand upon release.

What grit would some of you fixer-uppers reccomend taking this bow to before putting a sealer on? I want a matte finish on it, any suggestions on what I can use to finish it with after sanding?

Sounds great man, I traded off a 1967 1/2 Kodiak Mag for this bow I'm asking about. It had too high of a wrist for me, and who I traded it to got one hell of a deal. It was near mint as well.

I would go with something like 600 grit wet dry to scuff up the old surface before adding new finish.As for finish you could try some of that minwax but its not to durable.I really like Birchwood & Casey gun stock tru oil.Its not matt finish but you can scuff it up with a scotch-brite pad and dull it down.B&C tru oil is great stuff and can be purchased at most hardware stores.bd
