Trying to seek out our NC membership here on tradgang.

Are you a member of the NC Bowhunter's Association? If so, what benefits do you think are present for members? i.e., Why are you a member?

If not, is there something keeping you from joining? If there is, would you mind sharing what that is?

I am not looking for blowing smoke for the NCBA or casting bricks against, either. Just trying to figure out why you are or are not a member.

Looking for legitimate and respectable input, please.

Bud, I'm not a member on NCBA. Basically I'm not a member of any organizations. I used to be a member of CTA when Herb Reynolds was the president and did my beat to support that organization but after Herb's death, CTA went down hill(IMO) and I never came back. I see and enjoy many of the members at local and area shoots but as far as organizations, I'm just not interested. I donate bows and other things at most of the shoots I go to to help support the shoot. At the Tenn. Classic I always donate to the raffle table plus I spend many hours over the week helping new bowyers learn our craft under the bowyers shed but as far as organizations, they just don't interest me.

The Jan shoot at CTA on Jan 6th is the Herb Reynolds Memorial shoot. I would enjoy meeting and shooting with you if you care to drop by. I have only been a member for about two years there. I understand there was disagreement about the move and such, but any of that is before my time. I appreciate your input here.

Bud, at the next to last CTA shoot I went to near Hickory Herb asked me to build him a bow. I was honored and thrilled to say the least. He and I found an osage stave at one of the vendor that Saturday and Herb and I discussed the design and draw weight and length. Before I finished the bow Herb passed. I finished the bow and at the shoot the next Memorial Day weekend I donated the bow back to CTA in Herb's honor. The guy that won it said after he killed a deer with it he was going to donate it back to CTA as a perpetual raffle table offer. I wonder what ever happened to that bow.
Bud, where is the shoot located. If I have a chance I'd like to come. Is it a day shoot or a weekend?

I am a life member of NCBA....I support them and what they stand for......wish that I had the time that I once had to REALLY support them....

I was a member for several years back in the early 90's. Even wrote a few articles for the magazine if I remember correctly. Then life just happened...marriage, kids, etc, etc. We pinched pennies back in the early years my wife and I  were married just to get by and membership fees and like stuff was put on the backburner. Just never re-joined. I used to appreciate the "no crossbow" stance they supported. Do they still? If so, what is being done to get rid of the crossgun in our archery season? I don't hear much about NCBA anymore as far as voicing collective opinions on rule changes.

I will admit back in the early 90's there seemed to be certain "clicks" within the NCBA which was a turn-off to me, and several others I ran into at 3-D shoots that I overheard talking about the same. If you weren't in the click, you didn't get much information. Maybe that's a thing of the past and I should look into rejoining.

Darrin, yes, I have heard the same thing, but, I think the "click" thing might be due, in part, to only a handful of folks getting involved and staying involved. The handful of volunteers then tended to hang around and rely on one another. Maybe I am wrong. As for crossbows, they will not be part of NCBA under the current leadership or for the distant future. As for getting crossbows eliminated from archery season, that will likely not happen. Once ground is lost, it rarely, if ever, is regained as far as our legislature is concerned.

I would invite you back to NCBA to fight for an archery season stronghold and to contradict the "click" persona.

Also Pat, there are some old timers there who may know what happened to that bow. Jim Jordan attends regularly. He might know.

I'm a member. Any organization that advocates for archery and bowhunting is a positive thing in my opinion.

Being a fairly new NC resident I have not looked into the group yet.  Other priorities, such as paying to move the family across several states, has taken priority this year.  I'd like to get back to shooting 3d with like minded people.  Back in Louisiana we belonged to a local traditional archery group and my wife, daughter, and I shot monthly.  Since moving I've only been in contact with one other person who shoots traditional.

Barefoot Traditional Archers is located in Burlington. They host 3 shoots each year. 3rd Saturday in March, May, and August.

They are exactly 4 miles south of I40 down NC Hwy 49. Exit 145, if I remenber correctly.

I'm a member and have been on and off since the early 80's. I first joined when Eno Bowhunters first chartered with NCBA. Sadly Eno Bowhunters fell apart after a few years which leads me to the "cliquishness" that you and Pat were talking about. I agree that it can seem that way but in reality it is usally a core group that does everything and consequently influences every descision. That is where many members find conflict, in the descision making. They get frustrated when they can't influence descisions. The way I see it if you really want to influence things you need to be willing to put in the time to gain the respect of the core group. Also helps to have a positive attitude and be willing to put in extra time on projects. Even then in some cases personalities will just conflict and there may not be much you can do with that. As for me I'm not interested in the inner workings or politics either but I will donate time if needed and of course my dues.

Thanks Duncan. I agree. The core group that makes NCBA turn tend to stick together simply because they are the ones mostly present to get it all flowing. They just develop a camaraderie as a result. It is a perspective that those who perceive it in that way should maybe jump in and get their feet wet. I plan to. NC bowhunters need NCBA to be strong and steady.

Even though I live in Virginia I belong to the NCBA. I hold a lifetime license in NC and do most of my deer hunting around Liberty where I have family. Every bowhunter should belong to one or more organizations that support/promote bowhunting.

Bud, I am not a member.  And simply because I have not truly bowhunted since my move to NC 18 years ago.  Until this year, that is.  I really know nothing about the group, other than it promotes and protects bowhunting and bowhunters.  That is enough for me - I will be joining.
