Does anyone know of a Paul Schafer hunting video or footage from one of his hunts?
I've been reading every article on him I can find but I haven't found any videos yet. Any other Schafer related stories, articles or resources would be appreciated as well.
I think there are some video clips right here on TradGang. If you click on (forum home) and scroll down you will come to some archives including Paul Schafer. There are some clips there.
yep, look for:
Traditional Bowhunting/Archery Videos
Then look for:
Paul Schafer and Company
Beware, reading about his exploits will make you feel inadequate. Same with Bart Schleyer. They achieved some legendary accomplishments during their time on earth.

I've been reading about both and they lived inspiring lives. Suddenly I can't sleep because I'm thinking about hunting grizzlies, Cape buffalo, lion and trapping tigers in Russia.
I don't know if they are the clips on this site the folks pointed you to, but somewhere around here I have a VHS with some Schafer video. As I recall, some Mt lion footage, shooting one out of a tree, some Mt goat footage, Paul shooting one in a forest setting while he was wearing white sweats, and a cape buffalo kill for sure. Also some elk hunting, I think a bull he shot and one he called in close and a guy with a compound shot. All rough unedited video.

Hey Ryan: I also have what you have. I had it put on DVD for safe keeping. What a shame it's such poor quality copies of copies. I also recently uncovered some other rare personal footage of Paul and I that I'm presently working on. Speaking of that, last week I received a book from a bowhunter in France titled "Chasse A L'Arc, 30 Ans Apres" by Jean-Max Lecaille. The entire book is written in French. There's a photo in the book of Paul and I with a caption that says, "Barry Wensel et Paul Schafer deux grands chasseurs a l'arc... mais surtout deux immenses amis." I have no idea what it reads. Maybe I should send it to you and have Katia translate it for us. Ha. Happy Easter to all. bw
Barry, my only parley voo Frances is what I might have picked up thru osmosis, but I think that either means something about big friends or a big arse. :p
I think I got the video from Sergio el Carpio if I recall, or maybe thru the Old Man from him.
Best wishes to you and your bro. See ya down the trail.

Hay Barry this is Craig G. I would love to see that Paul footage.
Translated it means: Barry Wensel and Paul Schafer two great Bowhunters ....But also two awesome friends.
Ryan, That is Sergio Carpino ,bowhunter extraordinaire,Masterbator and just general bimbo! LOL According to Roger and the late Jim Emerson. Happy Easter everyone!
That footage on here is amazing. I really feel bad for my generation of hunters "the millennials" because so many if them have never been exposed to a real hunting legend. The people they look up to are the hootin and hollering team something or rather sportsman channel guys that just fast forward to the kill.
I've really enjoyed watching the footage and reading the stories. Thank you for sharing everyone,
I have watched those videos so many times never get tired of watching them and the big smile it puts on my face.
I should mention here that brother Gene has some old football footage of Schaf when he played for Montana State University in Bozeman. Unfortunately, it's poor footage in B&W. Paul was outstanding in about everything he did. I.E. "in 1968 MSU quarterback Dennis Erickson, flanker Ron Bain (one of Paul's best friends)and running back Paul Schafer engineered what is widely considered the greatest comeback in MT football history to tie for their third straight Big Sky Championship. Trailing 24-9 in the fourth quarter, Montana State scored 20 pts. in the last nine minutes and won 29-24 when Schafer, who had 58 carries for 234 yds. in the game, dove into the end zone with 12 seconds remaining." Dennis Erickson went on to coach the Miami Hurricanes to two NCAA national championships and was later head coach of NFL's Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers. It was also noted when Erickson heard of Paul's death he made the statement that Paul Schafer was pound for pound the toughest guy he'd ever met. And I bet he met some tough ones over the years. Happy Easter to all. bw

From what Ive read about Paul, he would be embarrassed if you called him a legend and would probably tell you to just be your own legend instead of lamenting the supposed legends of our time. Im in the same boat as you in wishing he were still here. Appears he was a treasure. I can feel it every time I read something Mr. Wensel writes about him.
Put one of his namesake bows in your hand and you will feel his spirit. :campfire:
The footage on this website, and the reading you can do via searches will keep you entertained for hours.
Though I never met him, I thought enough about him to name my first son "Schafer". My Schaf turned out to be a lefty, just like his old man. If anyone has a left handed original Silvertip they'd be willing to part with, I'd be more than willing to make an offer!
I cant thank you all enough for the stories and sharing the footage with me.
Does anyone know why i cant watch the videos of paul on here? Or where i can find them.
They work fine, go to the Legends and Pioneers forum. :campfire:
Thats weird it doesnt let me watch the videos
I have what you have also Ryan. Mine was in VHS format
I can not open the video's under Tom Muscat's thread. Says they are not compatible with video player
Not working for me either.
I was looking through my storage unit today and think I saw some old VHS tapes of Paul, Bart, etc. Does anyone on here know how to copy VHS footage onto DVD or maybe an SD card?

Try Tim Nebel of the Push Archery
Thanks for reminding me about Tim. I need to contact him again about a bunch of other stuff too.
I'd like to put mine on DVD too. I remember when I got mine it was like a big secret to have it lol.
