Please share any photos of your natural setups. This is something I really want to try this year in east Texas. No feeders and no bought stand, just want a natural looking ambush hide. Thanks
me too,maN. I'm right in the middle of G.Fred's book, Stalking and still hunter's bible. lotta good stuff in there. I plan to do most of my business from the ground this year.. good luck to ya.
Good luck to you also.
Here's a picture of one of my turkey blinds this year. I roosted the bird then built this blind and slipped out in the dark. Look close and you can see the die cut netting with branches weaved in and my shooting "window". It worked great, set in the shadow of the tree. I should have trimmed one more branch though. The one my limb tip hit when I took an 8 yard shot at a nice tom, arrow went 2' off to the left! :banghead:
I carry a small roll of the netting, pruning shears and a couple bamboo tomatoe stakes with me. I zip tie the stakes to my catquiver. I can set up a workable blind in a few minutes if I have to.

Really like seeing these type of set ups.....good stuff!!!
The first picture is me standing up in the natural ground blind I shot my bear from in 2011. I actually was sitting on a walkstool while hunting and when I shot the bear. The second picture was taken by me from where the bear was standing when I shot it and the guide is standing in my blind for reference. The shot was 11 yards.

This is a picture of a natural ground blind that I killed two deer from in one morning. I was sitting just to the right of the tree that is leaning. I have shot quite a few deer by just getting into some cedars and cutting some shooting holes.

thanks for sharing. I too want to spend some time in a ground blind. These are simple, but so nicely done.

i used old tree lstumps as th frame. i just added a roof and some black soil errosion mat to darken it up and keep it warm for winter
This is a great thread except that it is showing me my blind is good enough and I'm moving way to much, Ha!
Thanks to all. Great pics
I shot a buck and doe from this blind last season. The dark spot in the middle is my bag setting on the seat. It works for a north wind and you can bet I'll have it ready for this season, too.

These are some awesome setups, keep em coming!
Man them look good. Can't wait for season to get here. I'll be out this weekend makeing a couple brush blinds for me and the boys.
here is one I arrowed a doe out of last fall.

picture is sideways but it is two oak tops that formed a canopy over me. it is about 6 yds deep so the shadows are good. almost like a little cave.
Good pics and info
this is a great thread....

this is one of my favorite pictures of me ground hunting. moments before i took this picture i shot a doe at 10 yards. i had over 10 deer come past me that morning and none of them ever saw me all walked the same trail. this big tree fell over and it made a perfect place to sit. no brusing in was needed i just sat right against the tree on my chair.

These pics sure get my blood pumping. I have to get out and freshen up my 3 or 4 blinds pretty soon. Keep the pics coming!
I'd like to revive this old thread to see if anyone is interested in adding to it. I am trying to learn as much as I can about hunting from the ground (specifically with natural blinds, but maybe not exclusively) and would probably benefit a great deal from seeing what other folks are doing. I have one of those Hammock Seats and find it very comfortable and something I can shoot from. Just trying to get some ideas about making myself a little more difficult to see while using it. Thanks in advance.
Here's one I used for turkey season
Another
I killed deer out of both of these, both blinds had shoot through holes in the foliage so I didn't have to raise up to shoot.
I got the big buck out of the leafy blind in the second picture.
Pretty cool thread. Hope to see more ground set ups.
Mine
Love these! Jawge
Just wanna keep this at the top and fresh. Such a good thread I'd hate for it to fall behind. I know there is more ground hunters out there!!
I mainly hunt from the ground since my spinal surgery. I have alot of natural blinds through out my hunting areas. But don't have any pics of them.

The best view from the inside. Yes, North Dakota does have a few elk!

Nancy (RedBird) liked to hunt from a ground blind, this is one of hers in the edge of the pines

She was a serious hunter

Very cool

I hunt just about entirely on the ground now that I am a "seasoned citizen" and hunt mostly by myself (which my wife isn't fond of me doing). I have found from my experience that background is important--something to break up your form. I have had close shots at deer with almost no cover in front of me. We normally feel like we need to hide behind something, but between front and back cover, I think what's behind me is more important than what's in front of me.
I have to say the the Photo Bucket pics with the photo bucket emblem through them is totally worthless!
Here's one I made at a water hole for bear.
Here's on of my setups. It's on a sidehill that the deer move along the base of the hill, so I'm above the deer by 20 feet and about 15- 20 yards away. I just dig a seat and clear out a spot for my feet (and lower limb clearance) and add some screen cover in front with some zip ties. The hill and stumps/tree behind me give me a nice back cover. My daughter and I were sitting in this blind 5 years ago and she had an 8 point and 3 point within 20 yards for several minutes (just couldn't get the right shot angle for a rookie bowhunter) but they never knew we were there.

Also, I try to rake a path for approach (about 100 yards) so I can sneak in on those super quiet mornings

Sorry, here's a corrected rotation of picture. Also, I circled short shovel handle that would represent a 10 yard view of what deer sees below the blind.
Here's another spot on the farm with the same earthen seat concept. The bright light just over the top of blind is a cherry orchard the deer travel through and I literally have 5 steps down out of the orchard and into this blind, so easy/quiet access. I added some screening in front after I took the picture, but wanted to show you how this setup basically puts me in a dark shadow. There's a cedar tree and juniper bush behind me on the top of the hill and that helps to create the dark back cover in addition to the earthen seat. I'm standing on the deer trail that diagonals down the hill into the swamp (17 yard shot on my left side-right handed)

Very cool thread! Some nice set-ups.
I put up 5 or 6 of these dead log blinds on the last land I hunted. Very comfortable and I stay well hidden. I killed the most deer out of this one but all flintlock kills, no deer got in range when I was bow hunting. There are 7 or 8 big whiteoaks in front of the blind.
The buck is visiting a scrape which I hade made. The blind is 14 yards behind him.[attachment=1][attachment=1[attachment=1]
I used this spot this morning. Pic taken from approx. 12-14 paces. My ghillie, bow and chair in the pic. Directly behind me another 10 yards is a pond about the size of the footprint of a house, half dry with tracks all over it. I was on the south side. At 9:10am, five antlerless deer circled the pond to the north and came back on the west side to about 40 yards. No shots.

Man, these pictures of setups and examples of success are inspiring. Need to spend some time working on these rather than just tree stands. Thanks to all.
My Grandson rearranged his uncles wood pile in his yard to make a blind. Wood stacked on three sides and brush in front. He is all wound up about does and fawns at 30 ft. I told him that is what hunting is all about.
