OK first year hunting with wood,,I have three different BH's to carry afeild that all are flying very well,,
160 gr snuffer
125 gr WW
115 gr Abowyer two blade
Out of my hands I don't see anything different in each BH in flight,,They all hit where my feild point do,,I actually split a shaft with the a bowyer,That wasn't cool but just to tell ya how they all fly,,
How can I shoot such different weight heads and still fly awsome??
What would you tip your wood arrow with if you had this blessing? I personally love the snuffer but would like to hear more from you.
My choice of the three is the Snuffer. Bigger head=bigger hole. What kind of bow are you shooting? My bows cut close to center seem to shoot alot of arrows well also. Are you making your woodies or did you have them made?
What's your draw weight and what are you hunting. Snuffers are great, but I also use 2 blades on lighter bows.
My woods were tappered raw shafts,,I have done all the work since then,,When I got them they were already hand spined with in 1# and hand weighed with a real close tollerance,,I can put a dozen together with in 5 grains,,Real nice shafts,,53# RD RER longbow,,450+ string made by Leroy,,(thanks bud) and 66/67# spine cedars. Shoots awsome,,I have a set of 55/60# and they shoot nice as well but I have about 2 1/2 dozen of the others. I tried 50/55 and they were very eratic in flight,so I stepped it up. I'd have to say this bow is cut very close to center if not center..
SOS,,
I shoot 53#'s true,, Shooting a 11/32 tappered cedar arrow,,Last season I shot a 45# bow 550 grain arrow with 125 grain snuffer on it and came about 3/8" from comming out of a nice does oposite shoulder,,went in between the last two ribs,,great shot.
Just deer and turks in my back yard,,I can't afford to go hog huntin or any other big game hunting,,But I make the most of my deer season and turkey season with freinds and family and try and plan small camp out hunts with freinds. I have two this year so far and probably a third in november for some rut hunting in Newaygo county. I'm not sure what my actual weight is but its close to 550 grains,, The shafts averaged high 300's like 388 or so add 160 to it and its 548,,just roughly adding,,503 gr if I had the 115 A-bowyer on which is still plenty to hunt with deer with,, The old Toms will definately get the big old snuffer,,LOL,,
I also matched up the WW's with that snuffer and their probably about a 1/16" longer,,no big deal I thought,, I must say though all these heads are flying true and all are deadly heads,,I'm really impressed with all of them
SOS,, what kind of two blade are you shooting?,,I've always wanted to try some of them grizzlies.
Snuffers are a great head, easy to sharpen, tough and big blood trails. I believe on deer sized game Snuffers are fine for penetration out of lighter bows as well. I have shot a few large deer with 42# bows and got great penetration on all of them. I believe though, that the fact I used high foc carbons really helped with penetration. Shawn
Will I have to disagree with Shanwn on the easy to sharpen part, well at least from my experience any way. I think they are the hardest broadhead on the market to sharpen but they sure do leave a big hole that's a fact.
However if you can get the snuffers sharp they would be my first choice.
Buy a Snuffer tamer kit for $20 and you will be amazed, or just a file and strope. Very, very easy for most all guys I know. Shawn
My choice is the Wensel Woodsmans. They leave a great blood trail and I think they are the easiest to get shaving sharp with just a file and a strop.
Kevin.
i would shoot the a bowyer since they rate higher on penetration and I prefer two blades and it sounds like you are hitting them pretty well also
personal preference and I know you love those snuffers but those two blades leave a pretty good trail also
I'd stick with the 160 grain head because it'll be bringing the most kinetic energy to your target
Good wood arrows are very forgiving
I love Snuffers!!!
Shawn what is a Snuffer tamer kit and where do you buy one?
Yea what bohuntr said? I have tried and tried to sharpen a snuffer, I can get two blades sharp but it never fails I can't get all 3 razor sharp.
Kustom king sell it. It is two files mounted to a block of wood to change the blade angle and than a leather stroping block. shaving sharp in a minute. It will sharpen Wensels too. Shawn
