Besides good meals there are a lot of things you can make from the game you take. Here is just some of the things a person can make from game.  Braintanned hides from my own game is used alot. Rawhide from scraped hides is used quite a bit. Turtle is useful as well as deer antler. Don't want to forget legbones etc. I also use the hair for tying flies. Pelts make neat hats. I quite often still sleep on one of my bear hides when out camping. Braintanning whitetails is quite a bit of work, elk more so, moose is like why did I do that and last but not least is buffalo. I had to have two of my kids jump on it like a trampoline to keep it broke. Won't do that one again. I also use bear lard for various things. Anyhow there is no end to the use of critters it you set your mind to it.

I make wing bone calls and have used Turkey wing feathers for fletching, Sinew is aways good, surprised no one is using it for backing. I have made jewelry and knife handles from antler.

Start with wasting as little edible portions as possible.  It's amazing what you can do to make all the meat edible.  My favorite new-to-me thing is to throw all the scraps in a crockpot, and I mean everything that isn't bone or organ, and let it cook down.  Let it cool and then skim the top layer of greasy stuff off and freeze the meat for BBQ or stews.

I cracked all the bones from my deer last year and boiled them to get what's called "bone butter" out of them.  It is really high quality fat that can be used for cooking or conditioning hides, among other things.

Hides and sinew are no-brainers.  At least make rawhide from your deer.  It is so simple.  Or if you want to go further, braintan it.  At a minimum, it's all great for trades.

I have made different things over the years.  Antlers make nice knife handles, buttons, and decoractions.  They can be highly polished.  I have used antler to slide up leather laces that came off of my hat to keep in on my head in windy conditions.  Then there is leather, and rawhide projects.  I will see if I can load a couple of pictures too!

Two knives one with antler handle and one with an elk leg bone.
