Title: Giving something back!
Post by: Osagetree on July 29, 2007, 09:30:00 AM
I have found great joy in introducing young'ns to the traditional archery world. Since 2004 these are the bows that I have made and gave to the young'ns in hopes it may spark an interest in them. Of course, the interest is always high when you are young and get a new toy, I just hope that they never forget the initial joy and carry the interest for a lifetime.

I have at least 5 more osage staves that are to short for adult bows, so I plan on working them and giving them away to young'ns in the future or as the opportunity arises.

In all my years of hunting and shooting all sorts of things, I have found the gift of a bow to a young'n is a priceless reward to me. It gives me some satisfaction that I may be giving back something to a sport that has given so much to my quality of life.

I encourage everyone to try and do the same as the gratification you will get in return is ten fold! You don't have to make a bow, you can find your own means of giving back. You will find that most of you probably already have given back and know exactly what I mean.

If you have,,, THANK YOU! And if you have not given back, I'm sure you will someday, you are all wonderful people here at Trad Gang.

Hi Osage
I am a Cubmaster of a pack of about 50 boys and can't thank you enough for what you are doing. In my opinion, if more adults were doing these kinds of things instead of focusing so much on themselves, there wouldn't be so many problems with American youth and America overall.I have 3 sons who will all learn this lesson. Thanks for your service to this country. You are a TRUE patriot!

Osagetree, You've definetly sparked a desire in easton[ first pic at beginning of thread].

As soon as i get the  bowbuilding thing down I plan on giving some bows to several kids in the neighborhood.

I just helped out at a Cub Scout day camp for my son's district here in KY. On Thurs night I dressed up in braintan and wampum and talked about bowmaking, and related the tale of the Great Turtle and creation in character. You would not believe the enthusiasm of the kids for bows and Indian lore. I ended up giving several parents web links to this and other archery sites and vendors, what I could recall off the top of my head. I really hate being up in front of people, but it was very gratifying anyway!

If you get a chance to hook some kids, do it!
