I was making up some arrows today and starting thinking about different archery ideas and inventions I've seen over the 20+ years I've been doing this. The two that came readily to mind because I was using both at the time were:
1) Arrow wraps because they are easy to use, they look cool and arrows are easy to refletch.
2) Footed carbon arrows. This is the idea where you glue about an 1" or 2" of an aluminum arrow over the tip of a carbon to make it indestructible.
So I thought it would be fun to start a thread about the best ideas and inventions in archery.
The only rules for this thread is there are no rules or bad ideas. I just thought it would be fun to hear about other ideas and why they're great!
Off the top of my head would be fletch tape.
I'll say tradgang.com is one of my favorites.
Yes, I'm prejudiced. But I try not to mention this unless the topic is appropriate. I honestly think this is the best idea since glue-on nocks.

In over 55 yrs that I've been in trad archery, O.L. Adcocks patent on his limbs, allowing greater tradgectory with a lighter poundage bow.
The Zwickey Judo Point...nuff' said... :bigsmyl:
Uni nocks, low-stretch sting material (450+, Dyan 97 etc.), cross-weave carbon arrow shafts, and AMS Retriever reels and Safety Slides for bowfishing.
The ramin shafted nutter...
can anyone tell me where i can find the afforementioned arrow wraps?
heres an idea ime working on currently,a foldable 3 piece bow!
I'd go with the internet. How bout the Drawlock??? :knothead: Just kidding fellas.
Jim, you got a good one up there.
The Arrow!!!!!!!!!
Fish2, see the sponsor's classifieds. I just spent about a half hour looking at arrow wraps from Onestringer.
Killdeer :bigsmyl:
Fleece!
Jim in Maine,
I'm a little prejudiced too. How about the Bow Bolt.
Now we have two inventions straight from the great state of Maine.

carbon arrows tuff durable and fly great
Here is one of mine that worked out like a dream...
Use the smallest aluminum arrow insert you can find and insert into the end of your wood arrow to have an accurate and strong change point wood arrow.
I do it using my wood lathe, but you can make a jig and do the same thing on a drill press...
Here is a picture. That is one of the early ones... After that one, I recessed the top of the insert to get a smoother transition...

There are just so many really good broadheads out there compared to the old days of the 50's and 60's that are suitable for trad bowhunters.
Another great idea was the acceptance of high FOC arrows and the inserts and adapters that have come along that make arrow tuning very precise as well as adding additional penetration potential to a hunting arrow.
Modern FF string material. Precision nocks and waterproof adhesives..
Steel broadhead adaptors...heck, broadhead adaptors in general...
Crown or halo center serving is another one. This stuff lasts forever!
Grizzly 160 gr. broadhead. Tough as they get and sharpen easily. Frank
Mathews Solocam :biglaugh: in conjunction with Viagra.
seriously I am going to try a thermacell
but I have to agree with the internet and Tradgang as revolutionary.
Paul
Wow dissapointed no one mentioned the floppy arrow rest and floppy ruler LOL
Simmons Broadheads!
Jerry really stumbled onto something when he noticed that the Black Diamonds he was shooting began to fly better after they had been sharpened alot and began to develop a concave edge.
I think the availability of inexpensive and accurate chronographs has opened a lot of doors for average guys to experiment. It's not exactly "archery", but it has had an effect.
fishtheotherone--hate to burst your bubble.....but......:

Pretty cool Browning huh?
Obsidian heads! Happened many thousands of years ago but just think what the inventors must have thought when they put the first one through meat.
For kids and bowfishing I have to say No-Glove that slides on the string and subs for a glove is a great invention.
Carbon Shafts
How 'bout fiberglass?
the floppy arrow rest and floppy ruler are pretty kool plus Tradgang has to be the greatest one. all the great info & ppl here helping others out...
:campfire:
Here are a few more:
The clicker. Yes it's mechanical but this little device has helped tons of shooters.
Jay Kidwell's cure for target panic.
Double Bull and similar ground blinds.
Reparrowman, I saw some arrows with your Cherry tips. They look great and saved the man $6.00 each on his broken arrows.
I have Also seen the Bow Bolt. I met Craig at Denton Hill some years ago he showed me his bow. His bow was a long bow and the work was top of the line. Then he showed me how it broke down. This is the slickest thing since the greased pig. Just stick it in give it a twist and your in business.
I agree with TRADGANG!! 3D Targets.......Dryads You-Finish Bow Program........ALL The How-To DVDs
and ALL the Build-Alongs On TRADGANG!! :clapper: :clapper: :clapper: :clapper: :goldtooth:
What about an understanding, tolerant wife?
I would have to agree with TradGang !!!!
But I have to ask,,,,do you use the floppy ruler and Viagra together?
Arrow wraps are nothing new, I have some 1956 Stemmler arrows with them on. When looking for advancement in Archery just look at Papa Bear and all he did, from shooting gloves to bow quivers, stranded fiberglass and screw in points. No Gloves is another one that's been around since Hector was a pup.
Sweetland Forgewood compressed cedar shafts - heavier, stronger, front weighted.
I am always looking for some of these, if you know where I can get some please let me know.
I saw David Soza posted on the thread and because of his modesty he failed to mention his DAS bows!
Although this and many others mentioned are relatively new the inventions, ideas and innovations don't have to be new just significant in your eyes!
That said laminated limbs have got to be one of the most significant.
