Title: billet question
Post by: CutNShoot on July 27, 2007, 12:16:00 PM
I bought 2 Osage billets and when the arrived one was vertical cut and one was quarter sawn.I'm planning on backing with bamboo. Is this going to work or will one limb tiller so much different than the other, that they will be way out of balance.
I live in Texas so I could go down to my ranch and cut two more billets in the same configuration as the other 2 and just let them dry. Any ideas?

I'd get back with the supplier and get matched cuts.

Well I thought about that but my order got messed up from the start. It was supposed to be a pair. Only one billet came. I called and they told me they didn't know what happened since they were taped together in pairs. He said they would get it shipped to me asap. I figured the sister billet was setting there like he said untaped and someone new had made a mistake pulling the order.   Well there is know way these are sister billets since there cut from different parts of a tree with different size rings but I thought if they would work  with the backing I would go ahead and use em since it's my first boo backed bow anyway. I would at least like a shooter and I hate just to waste the boo and glue and2 good billets. The other real problem I see here besides mine is now there is another non pair of billets setting on the shelf, and someone else will end up skunked. I would have sent the first one back no problem if they had asked me to, so they could send me a pair and they could have made handle blanks out of the other one. Anyway thats my story! If ya don't think it will work I'll send em back.
