How long have you been applying?
Kevin.

That is awesome man. What hunt did you draw? Good luck on the hunt.
You are the lucky one Jeff  Congrats on drawing a tag. Nice to see one of us score!!
Brent
I drew the early season. Aug 25-29 & Sept 15-18. I am planning on heading up for 2 weekends before to do some scouting. I am taking my bow & a Rifle. Hopefully be able to get in on one with the bow!!
I have been applying for over 10 years. My mother applied for the first time in 02 & got drawn. my father has applied every year since the Elk hunt began & hasn't been drawn yet. Sometimes its just nuts how a person gets drawn.
Jeff - Thats awesome! I'm happy for you.
How did your operation go? Everything AOK?
You gotta have Teresa make a shirt from that elk hide!!!!
Jeff,
I have applied every year until this one; you are one in a million!
Don't take your rifle if you really want to use your bow...it is awful hard not to use the gun; trust me :( Maybe go bow only for the first season. Try and find a farmer that is getting his crops hammered and poke one for him
Jeff,
When you get your list of guides give me a call. I can give you some names to check if your going to go with help. Which I advise. They will help get you on some property and get your elk to the check-in station. I'm bummed though. Haven't gotten ANOTHER tag since 1994 when I drew a tag the first time I applied!
Way to go, Jeff. Good luck and don't forget all your TradGang buddies when the steaks are ready!!
Good on ya'! Should be a fun hunt! Best of luck.
Mike
May your trail be short, wide, and bright crimson red.
Happy hunting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS JEFF!! It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Use what ever you want, this will probably be your only chance at a Michigan elk. A guy I know drew a permit for a bull some years ago and took one with a pistol.
If you nail one we'll have a cigar and some JB Black to celebrate...my treat :clapper:
Congrats Jeff. Great opportunity in your own back yard!!! If I was you I'd take Ron up on that cigar :readit:
Joe
I will take Ron up on the Cigar & JB Black!!!! My Hope is to be able to take a Cooler full of Steaks & such down to the 2008 Compton Rendezvous!! I Gotta see what those boys from Missouri can do with those Elk Steaks!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe Ron will testify to the fact that they can Cook!!!!!!!!!
QuoteMy Hope is to be able to take a Cooler full of Steaks & such down to the 2008 Compton Rendezvous!!
You'd be the most popular guy in camp :campfire:
cool tag jeff good luck, we were up there last year and saw several MI elk, didnt seem real hard to locate but we were not hunting them either
I would think a treestand on a cut road might be the thing, there were lots of people driving around looking for elk (locals)every evening, but no one in the early am and the elk knew that.
keep us posted, that is some neat country
Congrats and good luck Jeff!! That would be sweet to tag a Michigan elk.
I have never tasted Michigan elk!
now I new there were elk in kentucky and pa, but I didn't know there were in michigan. thats pretty cool jeff!...good luck.
AWSOME!!,,Good luck are you taking your bow,,JB
I HOPE to be able to take my bow along. The problem is I just had Back surgery June 25th & I haven't been able to shoot my bow since May. As of today the Dr still will not let me draw my bow. If he lets me start shooting VERY soon, I will try to use my bow, but I will have to wait & see if I can hit anything & if I can draw it with ease or not.
Ron Thats just for us folks That camp their where we camp. Richard, mike, you & yours,Roger, Bret & his buddy, Fred, Theresa, & the rest of the board, Kustom king folks,Etc. you know the group.
I have to kill an Elk First though!!!!
I don't mean to sound dumb, but how long has Mich had a Elk season?
Since the early mid 1980's.
congrats...goodluck huntin that cow!!!!!
I would be more worried about stringing the bow than pulling it after back surgery...i have had a couple bad episodes with my back over the years, and i gotta be careful while using a bow stringer....different muscles....i wish you luck on your hunt!
Good luck Jeff and Congrats! Hope to see some pics!
Dude, thats fantastic have fun.
Scott
Jeff,
Congratulations on the draw. I'm one of those folks that was drawn on my first try in '95. Got to shoot a cow. I haven't applied since but think I might start putting my name in the hat again next year. Good Luck.
Howard
Hello Jeff, Are you going with a guide? If so I know of one that does it off horse back ,if your back is up to it? If not I know of someone that charges 300 bucks for a cow on private property,it ticks me off though, that they charge, they complain that the elk are doing damage which they do but then they want to charge you to be able to shoot them. I guess we can't do anything about that. But i also know of some farms and a club that I would gladly share the numbers, with you. I also know of some state land that i might be able to show you on one of those weekends you talked about coming up here if your interested? The only thing with the state land is there's going to be other hunters and guides and it's going to be hot and thick to try and find the elk the first hunt you might do better on the state land the second hunt when the bulls become more vocal. Anyway my cell is 989-390-6735 except I'm having trouble chargeing my phone and won't be able to get it looked at until tuesday. I'm on midnights until tuesday morning also my home phone is 989-348-9488 or you can email me .Talk to you later .Gib
Best of luck Jeff!
Congrats Jeff! Been trying for over ten years and still no luck. Have a great time and enjoy that meat!
