Title: Birdseye maple bows Pics please!
Post by: T.J. on July 26, 2007, 06:46:00 PM
Hi everyone,

I have a custom bow being made by Abe at Cari-bow and it's due to be done in about 6 weeks. It's going to be made out of birdseye maple and pau ferro. So I was hoping some of you with wood combinations like this or similar would post your pics.

Thanks

T.j.

TJ,

Here is a Bear's Paw Swift of mine.  It is winewood (dymondwood) with curly maple accents and limbs.

My grandfather used to make money by finding trees that would produce curly maple and birdseye maple lumber... he died before he explained the how of that.
What causes the curly and birdseye maple to occur?
It sure makes nice bows - huh ?

Sean, Raymo, and Joe those are some great looking bows! Manny can't wait to see yours I'll be looking for them.

Joe, mine will be a lot like yours except it will be pau ferro for the dark wood. I love how smoothly the top limb mates to the riser. That is really sweet.

Thanks for all the great pics. Keep em coming

I don't know how to post pictures here, but you might be able to go to the following link and see a Williwaw with birdseye riser.  You could also go to  www.webshots.com (http://www.webshots.com)  and just search for Marriahbows.

Birdseye, reminds me of when I was building bows in the 90s. I would go to this hardwood store and there was this employee who would stash the best of the birdseye lumber every time a new shipment would come in. Well I learned where is stash was, he would hide it behind a some plywood that was leaning up against the wall. Yep, I no there are some good looking J D Berry birdseye maple longbows out there.
