Title: Project Bow :)
Post by: bbassi on July 23, 2007, 12:06:00 PM
This is really a story about what you can do with the classifieds here a Trad Gang. Back in the spring I picked up a BW MA II on the classifieds here for what I considered dirt cheap. As I suspected, when I got the bow it was in pretty rough shape with the finish missing or really bunged up in a lot of places, not to mention some pretty good scratches in the limbs. I also was never a fan of the 3-D finish that BW uses. The bow shot fine however and was just in need of some TLC, so I decided to refinish her and take her to Denton Hill to see if I could make a few bucks on the trade blanket.

In the process of sanding off the old finish I decided she needed some skins, which I got from Mike Yancy of Pine Hollow Longbows (a sponsor here) and when that was done I had enough left over skin to do the quiver (which also came from the classifieds). I decided to sweeten the deal so to speak by adding some arrows (from the classifieds) and some arrow wraps that I won in the St. Jude Auction here from Onestringer. The Web Strike plate came from Black Widow, who I just realized was a sponsor also.  :)

Anyway, I'm real happy with how it turned out, and hopefully someone at Denton will like it enough to buy it so I can afford my next project.

Very nice. The quiver looks good. I've done that to a couple of my quivers. I posted some pics on how to do it a while back for someone. Yours looks great. So does the whole setup. You should do well with it I would geuss.

Love the quiver and you sure can see how well the finish turned out in the second shot.  Great job!

Looks nice. What type of finish did you use and how did you apply?

Thanks everyone. Mike, that's spar urethane. I brushed on 7-8 coats of gloss over the skins, sanding every other coat, and then sprayed with satin finish to dull it down a little. It takes time, but it makes the skins smooth as glass.
