Title: Morrison Cheyenne Shooters
Post by: Seeking Trad Deer on July 22, 2007, 02:56:00 PM
Working on putting in an order to Bob for a B Riser 53# @ 28 1/2" 58" Cheyenne T/D.  Having a heck of a time deciding on options such as what types of wood for riser.  For those of you shooting this bow can you give me your input on what you got, what you like, what you would do different, etc.  I'd also appreciate if anyone has a picture or two to share...especially the actionboo limbs stained cordovon color.  Thanks for you help and input guys    .

Mine is an A riser and B limbs, for a 56" bow.  Riser is Osage and Philippine Ebony.  I have the finger groves.  I shoot a Thunderhorn limb bolt quiver on mine (make sure you have the longer limb bolts).  Right handed, split finger.  I brace mine around 7 1/8.

Mel, please resize this pic to no wider than 640 pixels. JC

I recently got a new to me Cheyenne. Really sweet shooting bow. Mine is the A riser with C limbs and makes a 58" bow. The riser is Osage with cocobolo flare, low grip.

Here's a link to a thread I started a week ago with pics.

Since I got this one I've been thinking of getting another one. I'd probably get something with a dark riser, macassar ebony with osage or black diamondwood. And a pinecone, looks so cool.

I am very pleased with my bow. I did send Bob a riser (grip) to copy and it turned out perfect. Wood beauty is way subjective... I've always loved osage orange. I realized the other day that every one of my "custom" bows had at least some osage in it.
My Cheyenne is perfect and I honestly would not change a thing. Call and ask Bob about "pretty" options. This is what I did, he will spend the time to help.

Dad was a cabinet maker in his early years...and taught me the beauty of grain and finish.

I don't need much contrast to think the bow is beautiful, but prefer figure and swirl in grain.

A few contrasting overlays on the back of the bow riser is about all Bob added to mine and I thought it was incredibly beautiful.  Sit in stand and marvel at all that swirly grain over and over. Mexican rosewood was my favorite and some old Bubinga that had figure. I understand that is very hard to come by now with more straight grain the norm.

Sorry. At work. No pics but can do some if the "just wood" idea strikes your fancy.

Thanks guys.  Bob has been great...very patient and never anything but helpful.  I'm the slow guy as they all look good to me   ;)

I have two of them.  One is a 56", bocote riser,  canebrake skins on the limbs.  The other is 60" osage and ebony riser with osage  limbs.  Great Bows!

Osage and Ebony with Osage limbs sounds beautiful    .

I seem to keep coming back to three woods Macassar, Rosewood/Dymondwood, and Cocabola.

I have a Morrison Dakota with Shawnee limbs on order. I had a picture file saved of Dakotas and Cheyennes to help me decide on what woods I would have Bob use in my riser, I picked Macasser Ebony with Bocote flare:

Some other woods:

Are all of Bobs risers and limbs interchangable?

Thanks for all of your pictures and input everyone.

I do very much like the weight of Dymondwood.  However, I seem to be settled on the third picture you posted above Ontario Longbow.  Funny how we both ended up with that picture.  Even more of a coincidence is that we also both picked out the first one you posted.  I think that is beautiful but I don't like the reputation of bocote so right now I seem to be stuck on Rosewood Dymondwood or that third picture you have posted above.

Hey Mike,, You have good taste!! I'm a big Bocote fan, so I knew that would be part of my choice. I too like the Dymondwood, cocobolo,, This was my first Shawnee:

Guys, sorry, but most of these pics were too large...we need to keep width down to 640pixels or less.

I've got two of Bob's Cheyennes, love em both:

Bacote and Macassar Ebony

Osage and Macassar Ebony

I'm partial to the looks of my Midnight Dymondwood and Zebrawood Shawnee too:
