Title: Will arrow wraps cause deflection on impact?
Post by: Seeza on July 22, 2007, 08:10:00 AM
Doing some fine tuning and have my 28 1/2" 2018's with 175 gr head flying great out of my Navajo Caddo 59# at 27".  My question comes from thinking about the arrow wraps I've added to the back of the arrow.  Will this 10 gr addition to the back of a parrallel aluminum shaft cause the arrow to flex more on impact and maybe affect penetration.  The whole concept of the fully tapered grizzly sticks got me thinking.  Getting ready for September Ontario Moose and would appreciate your comments.

I'm not certain, but I wouldn't think so if the arrow is flying true upon impact.

I have arrow wraps on my arrows. They fly good.

Never thought of the physics of that fact Tim, it would make sense, but personally I have never seen it happen.
I think bare shafting a wrapped arrow and filming in, the watching in slo-mo or "step" mode would show you.
Compare the 2 arrows this way, unwrapped vs. wrapped; let me know how it goes.

How are the bees ?  :campfire:

The effect would be infintesimal (sp) if any.  Neither you nor the moose will be able to tell.

It may even help penetration due to the ever so slight stiffening by adding weight to the rear of the shaft and the addition of ten grains. The only problem is you might have to measure the difference in .000 of inches. (just kidding) I wouldn't think there would be any noticable difference.

Put a little extra glue on the front insert and you shouldn't notice it.  ;)    :D

Thanks all.  Sometimes you just have to overthink things.  Both bare and fletched shafts are flying great.  I'll think my work there is done.  Now to find the moose.

P.S. Cary,
The bees would be doing better if it didn't rain EVERYDAY.  Forecast looks better though.  Tim

It would not be worth considering any time ya add weight to the back of the arrow ya stiffen the spine slightly! Shawn

Highlly doubtful, and like Shawn said it isnt worth the time. They are so thin and light you shouldnt even worry about it.
