I have just spent the last hour serching the web for some detailed instructions with pictures but all i could come up with as far as decent instructions was for how to make one out of a beer bottle bottom. Been knapping almost 20 years, and I am sure you don't want to hear it, but knapping is something that you learn ONLY with practice.  I firmly believe that one afternoon with you and a couple of good rocks and appropriate tools would teach you more than a year of web research.  There are lots of knappers in Tennessee and there are knap-in events there as well.  I think you should do web search for knap-ins in your state and attend one..........watching someone in person who knows whats goind on is invaluable.  Also, this will be the best place to get GOOD knapping rock.  Good rock is ESSENTIAL and the best knapper will make a crappy point with crappy rock.  This being said, I would recommend you go to Amazon.com and get two books that I think are quite helpful.   My friend John Whittaker wrote a book called "Flintknapping" that will teach you knapping in textbook style.  D.C. Waldorf also has a book that teaches knapping in a different way (both are very helpful, it just depends on what kind of learner you are).

Hope this helps.

Matt

They sure look nice. It is always amazing to see what trained human hands can accomplish.
